. אֲבִישָׁלוֹם (Avishalom / Absalom)
Meaning: "My father is peace" or "Father of peace."
Biblical context: Absalom was the son of King David and Maacah (2 Samuel 3:3). He was highly regarded for his beauty and charisma, but he is also remembered for his rebellion against his father, when he attempted to usurp the throne of Israel. His story is told primarily in 2 Samuel chapters 13 through 18.
He died in battle while fleeing from David's army, hanging from a tree by his hair, and was killed by Joab. His life reflects the tragedy of rebellion, ambition, and the consequences of sin. |
