Biblical Context: In 2 Samuel 20:14-15, a place called אָבֵל ('abel) is mentioned where a mourning was taking place. This passage describes how the rebel leader Sheba hides in the city of אָבֵל, and Joab, the commander of David's army, surrounds the city. Eventually, the inhabitants of אָבֵל manage to resolve the conflict by handing over Sheba, and the mourning is dissolved. Here, אָבֵל refers not only to mourning, but to a place associated with it.
